NATIONAL
SECURITY
& CANCER
The Pentagon has buried an internal study that exposed $125 billion in administrative waste in its business operations amid fears Congress would use the findings as an excuse to slash the defense budget, according to interviews and confidential memos obtained by The Washington Post (12-5-2016)
CancerPunk's BEEf:
DEFENSE WASTE KILLS AMERICANS
FINDING MONEY IN THE BUDGET
Massive respect & appreciation for all those who serve & have served our country in the armed forces. We salute you.
Our beef, our focus is on the massive waste, fraud & corruption in the defense budget that gets ignored by politicians in on the game. We believe that ----- weakens us as a nation, taking vital resources from more deserving projects.
It would be easy to go with the flow without critiquing defense spending but it would be irresponsible to ask for cancer research increases and not match that with areas of waste.
An American is 10,000 times more likely to die of cancer than a terrorist attack.
We make this comparison
because Congress has committed over $4.7-Trillion to the WAR on TERROR, while completely ignoring the far more deadly & immediate every day enemy in cancer. The threat of terrorism is real but does the actual risk level match expenditures made by CONGRESS? The cancer threat is much more real, taking the lives of one-in-four of us, yet gets comparatively little attention & resources from Congress.
10,000 to 1
A CONGRESSIONAL ODYSSEY
As most Americans we support a robust & world's best national security budget. We're all for smart spending & paycheck increases for service members. But national defense is the only area of the federal budget that routinely gets increases without regards to price, quality & performance reviews. Effective budget controls are non-existent.
Waste, fraud, conflicts of interests, costs overruns, and dodgy accounting are standard practices.
It would be easier to look elsewhere for cancer research funding. Some will claim we are weak on defense when we know we are strong because protecting all Americans will never be wrong.
WHY CHALLENGE
DEFENSE SPENDING
There is a limit to the funding available in the federal budget, thus spending wisely is required.
Isn't national security all about protecting the lives of the American people?
At what point do our leaders focus on the enemy that kills us every day of every year in numbers far more dramatic than any foreign nation & weapons ever could?
NATIONAL SECURITY
NUKE KNUCKLEDUM ?
How many nuclear weapons would ever be enough?
Isn't there some line we cross when we have more than we could ever possibly need or use?
Can we ever use even one now that other countries have their own nuclear weapons?
We know any defense budget increases, as always, will come at the expense of health, education and welfare spending.
Are we troubled when politicians say we don't have funds to increase cancer research to stop the killer of 1-in-4 of us, yet we always have enough for more nuclear weapons than we could ever possibly use?
Our government now spends more money on
LIFE EXTENSION PROGRAMS
for nuclear weapons than on cancer research. Are the lives of nuclear weapons more important than actual American lives??
STORYTELLING...
You can only fight with the tools you're given. Our major weapon is creativity, finding ways to make the cancer story resonate. It's helping people to share their stories, their pain, their struggles, so we can burden Congress with the real instead of allowing to them to ignore the world's leading killer.
STUPID STRENTTH?
Isn't there a limit to military muscle? When too much cripples a nation's ability to be well rounded & address other vital concerns...
I heard eventually this guy burst, but he reminded me of pointless power, over doing the usefulness, like a nation spending for endless weaponry that drains the treasury of the resources to fight our most deadly enemy... CP
The United States has the biggest most powerful military in the world, massive & unlimited firepower. No one can compete with us. Yet our most fearsome & deadly enemy attacks outside the rules of common warfare. It strikes who, when & where it wants without warning.
Our military might is useless. People are defenseless & alone.
Our leaders do nothing to protect us.
With limited dollars we really hafta choose between fighting which actually kills us or the hype that leads the news...
SHOULD THE KILLER OF ONE-IN-FOUR AMERICANS
BE CONSIDERED A NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT ?
